The first day after we arrived at Deb's was a lazy day of just catching up and eating - Russell was away doing real estate stuff. Then next day (Tues.28th June) Deb and I had some
serious business to do - seeing the sights and shops of Katherine!!!! We didn't get to town until nearly 12 o'clock and the first stop was O'Keefe House (a small house originally built as an Officers Mess during WWII. Built of timber, corrugated iron and flywire. It was restored by the Trust in 1988) There was Devonshire Tea and Scones for sale and as we hadn't had morning tea we thought it sounded good. Well....... in actual fact it was a dismal failure. The coffee was cheap instant coffee made with town water (that tasted like river water!!!) and
the scone was a mini scone from Woolies we reckoned!! Deb decided then that seeing it was lunch time we would go and check out the menu at the Cycad Gardens but it didn't appeal so we went to the museum and had a nice Barra and salad lunch there. After such a busy couple of hours we both felt the need of a real coffee and as it was by then after 2 pm. we called past the Bucking Bull cafe and had a cappuccino and giant slice of Chocolate Coffee Torte and ice-cream (which we shared, thank goodness)!!!
Then and only then when we had no more space that needed filling in our stomachs we could start on the normal part of the shopping trip - the groceries etc. So that was our very busy half day in Katherine!!!! - A real foodie feast!!!
The next day Wednesday 29th June, Pete, Chrissy and Kieran, Mal, Annette, Katlyn and Anika (all from Bundaberg) arrived with their camper trailers. They too had come for Cracker Night on 1st July. By now we were a rather big family waiting for the Big Night!!! All the way from Queensland.
