Mother and baby mickey bird - De Grey's River Campground - about 1/2 hour after this was taken a Kookaburra came and took the baby bird and killed it. Sad, but part of nature.
A really tiny flower I found on a shrub on the De Grey River bank - the size of my thumb shows how small it is!!!!!
Our first sighting of a Sturt's Desert Pea in real life - Port Hedland. I have only ever seen pictures of them before so there was lots of excitement. Eric had never seen one before either.

Our free camp spot near the boat ramp - Port Hedland
The day before we arrived at the camp spot this croc was sighted at the boat ramp!!!!
Another sign at the boat ramp
Port Hedland - bougainvillea on a cool trellis made of steel bars that are normally used to reinforce concrete
Interesting garden feature near Tourist Information Centre - Port Hedland
Salt heaps and salt ponds - Port Hedland
Salt Ponds
Port Hedland Industrial Estate - a mine truck body made into a wheel barrow - cool eh!!!!!!
Sad about the baby mickey bird! I didn't know kookaburras killed other birds (or maybe I did but had forgotten - it does ring a bell, actually). Why - did it eat it?
ReplyDeleteLove the close-up photo of the Sturt's Desert Pea!
Don't know what the kookaburra did - Eric just followed it to see if he could save the little mickey but he said it was too late - no one asked any questions, it was all a bit sad as we had just picked the baby mickey up off the ground as it had fallen off the branch where it was and then we were standing real close watching the parents feed it-they weren't worried about us.
