Port Hedland

David and I and also Eric and Joan left 80 mile beach on Saturday 24th September.  Alan and Ruth decided to stay another night and catch up to us when we got to Port Hedland.   We stayed Saturday night at De Grey's River Free Camp together with Eric and Joan, a really nice spot right on the river then headed off early Sunday morning to spend Sunday morning with some friends in Port Hedland (Jim and Donna).  After lunch the other two couples headed off south but we had to stay in Port Hedland until next day to buy car tyres and collect re-addressed mail from the P.O.  We found a beaut spot about 14km from Port at the boat ramp with a water view of an inlet from the ocean on one side and the lights and workings of the iron, manganese and salt mines on the other side.  We ended up stayiny there two nights waiting for mail to arrive.

Mother and baby mickey bird - De Grey's River Campground - about 1/2 hour after this was taken a Kookaburra came and took the baby bird and killed it. Sad, but part of nature.

A really tiny flower I found on a shrub on the De Grey River bank - the size of my thumb shows how small it is!!!!!

Our first sighting of a Sturt's Desert Pea in real life - Port Hedland. I have only ever seen pictures of them before so there was lots of excitement.  Eric had never seen one before either.

 Port Hedland Industrial Estate - a mine truck body made into a wheel barrow - cool eh!!!!!!
